Mission and Philosophy

Mission

The mission at Woodland Nursery School is to provide a high-quality, inquiry-based program that strives to educate the whole child, is informed by best practice, and celebrates the joy and wonder of children immersed in nature.

Philosophy

  • To honor children as individuals and encourage their passions and interests while also supporting their growth and development.
  • To build a strong foundation for a lifelong love of learning.
  • To develop a strong sense of stewardship for the earth.
  • To explore and learn as influenced by the Reggio Emilia approach – teacher as researcher, environment as the third teacher, and child as capable.
  • To create a community of learners where differences are valued, respected, and encouraged.
  • To employ an integrated approach to learning to encompass all areas and developmental standards.
  • To nurture imagination and creative problem solving through storytelling, conversation, and self-directed play.
  • To foster the art of metacognition, introspection, creativity, resiliency, and critical thinking as children take an active role in their learning.
  • To model and guide mastery of self-care.
